Thursday February 3rd, 2011

Today was my official start day on the 'Bikini Land' blog. I am going to write this blog as each day unfolds so I don’t forget what I’ve eaten or had to drink. You know how easy it is to conveniently forget that you’ve eaten about 50 extra almonds! :)

Here's how my first day went….

I woke up this morning at 5:10am.  I got right up and dressed for my workout class. I always lay my workout clothes out the night before so I don't have to take the time in the morning to look for them. It's hard enough to wake up that early and if I had to get up any earlier than 5:10am just to pick out workout clothes, I probably wouldn't do it.

I got ready and at about 5:20am I heated up a piece of Morningstar sausage in the microwave to eat on my drive to the gym. I also grabbed a few almonds and a diet coke. Most mornings I need some caffeine to get me going and today it was diet coke!

If I'm going to 'Chains Class', I like to eat a little something beforehand. We do lots of strength training in that class so I need something to help me push through it.

I did chains from 6-7am. Today we trained upper and lower body and did cardio in between sets. It was sort of like a HUGE circuit. Cardio bursts included squat thrusts, jumping rope, running in place w/high knees, jumping on and off a wooden box, and other plyometric exercises. For strength, we did chest press, pull ups, chin-ups, monkey rows, frontward and backwards lunges, dead lifts, weighted squats, and weighted wall sits! I drank water throughout class.

At 7:10am, I ran about 3 miles on the road with some friends and then headed back home.

At 8:25am, I ate a quick breakfast of two egg whites and reduced fat cheddar cheese. I ate fast because I had to leave the house to be somewhere by 9am.

Right now, it's 10:15am and I'm having a Starbucks coffee. I put 3 splenda packs in it and a little skim milk!  I'm feeling great so far!  I had lots of energy this morning and actually ran faster than normal. I credit that to a good nights sleep!!!

It’s 1:30pm right now and I am STARVING!  I just heated up some homemade spaghetti Mama made the other night.  She made it with whole-wheat noodles and low-fat ground beef and sauce (mushrooms, tomatoes, onions in sauce). Drank water.

3pm - I snacked on cocoa flavored almonds... I'm still feeling great. Lots of energy!!

4:30 - 5:30pm - I took a spinning class. It was the hardest spin class of my life I think!  I loved it though!  I had more water to drink.

7:30pm – Dinner was a grilled chicken salad, lots of veggies were on the salad.  And I drank water and some red wine.

Over all, I think I had a pretty successful day on my plan.  I think if I should’ve changed anything, it would’ve been to leave the red wine out.  Alcohol slows down your metabolism. I probably need to limit my consumption to 1-2 glasses a week.

That’s all for today!

Going to bed now... 5am is going to come fast tomorrow!!

  1. Julie, I am so glad you started this blog!! I am currently trying to lose some weight and get fit and it feels like I'm right there with you! I have a really bad knee (haven't been able to run for 10 years due to chronic pain) that affects me daily and no doctor will help me. It's really frustrating and discouraging, but I'm not gonna let it get me down and run my life anymore. I started a weight loss blog also. It's called Operation: Flab to FAB and I'm doing it with a couple fellow military wives/blog friends.

Good luck to you in everything, Julie!
